DTI-Laguna and Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation conduct business continuity and family preparedness seminar

Biñan City – On June 14, 2024, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) with a collaborative effort to empower trade unions conducted training about strengthening MSMEs on business continuity and family preparedness. The seminar took place at the Hotel Marciano in Calamba City.

A total of forty (40) micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from different cities and municipalities across Laguna participated in the said activity. The topic was discussed by Ms. Veronica Gabaldon, Executive Director of PDRF. She started the seminar with a discussion on how natural disasters are different from human-made hazards followed by insights about how can families, businesses as well as the community will lessen the negative effects of natural disasters and hazards.

After introducing what natural disasters and hazards are and how it can be lessened, Ms. Jeanne Michelle Bayhonan discussed the topic “Better Business: Effective Business Continuity Planning for MSMEs”. She discussed what business continuity is and what risk is and discussed details on how MSMEs can adapt to the impacts of disasters through understanding business continuity practices and basic concepts of disaster risk reduction management. She also discussed step-by-step guide on crafting business continuity plan and assessment tools to help evaluate disaster readiness to increase MSMEs’ capacities in dealing with disasters.

DTI-Laguna Negosyo Center Business Counsellors Nikki Rose Repol and Roxanne Fatima Garcia talked about Consumer Education and other programs and services of the Department, which gave the MSMEs knowledge on their rights and obligations as consumers. This is part of DTI-Laguna’s mission to empower both businesses and consumers as well as part of the commitment to give consumer and business information to Laguna’s entrepreneurs, both potential and existing. ♦
