Liliw, Laguna — In partnership with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna, through Negosyo Center Liliw and the Municipal Cooperative Development Office/LEDIPO of Liliw, organized a seminar for tsinelas manufacturers entitled “IPO Philippines: Basic Orientation on Intellectual Properties” held at the Liliw Municipal Conference Room, Gat Tayaw St., Brgy. Pagasa, Liliw, Laguna, on May 10, 2024.
Mr. Joel C. Caalaman, IP Field Specialist of IPSO Calabarzon, provided the participants with basic knowledge about the different types of intellectual property such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Also, he discussed tips on how to protect their intellectual property and safeguard their innovations, branding, creative works, and confidential information from theft or misuse by competitors.

After the discussion, Ms. Leanne A. Placente from the Municipal Cooperative Development Office/LEDIPO of Liliw, facilitated the Q&A session wherein the attendees raised their questions. Some of the queries raised included clarification on what is the difference between DTI Registration and IPO Registration. The DTI Negosyo Center Business Counselor based in Liliw, Laguna, further explained that the DTI registration (Business Name Certificate) only prevents others from using your business name based on your territorial scope but the IPO Registration prevents others from using your business name and brand name nationally.
After the seminar, the participants learned the importance of IPO Registration in their businesses especially in terms of long-term success and business sustainability. ♦
