Victoria, Laguna — The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna), through its Consumer Protection Division, conducted onsite Product Standard Monitoring on May 14, 15, and 21, 2024, in Calauan, Los Baños, and San Pedro City, Laguna. The said activity is part of ensuring consistent compliance of products and services with technical regulations and requirements of the specific standards to protect the public against unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products.

A total of 15 establishments that are selling household appliances, consumer electronics, lighting and wiring devices, steel products, plastic pipes and ceramics, cement and other construction materials, chemical products, automotive related products, and other consumer products were monitored. The inspection included a face-to-face interview with the store manager, supervisor, and/or representative of the establishment, as well as checking of expiration date of the product, verification of ICC marks, and checking of the brand and the quality of the products. It was documented and the list of products was written in the monitoring form for proper recording and reference. In addition, the establishments monitored were briefly informed on the Consumer Act of the Philippines and other fair trade laws. They were also initially oriented about Product Standard compliance. The DTI’s Product Standard Monitoring is a form of government regulation to protect the interest of the consumers, particularly where safety and public health is an issue. It is linked to the idea of consumer rights and to the formation of consumer organizations that help consumers make better choices in the marketplace.
