DTI-BPS approves new standard for pneumatic tubes for motorcycles
The new standard for pneumatic tubes for motorcycles has been approved by the Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standard (DTI-BPS) as a Philippine National Standard (PNS). The PNS 34-1:2019 Pneumatic tubes for motorcycles – Specification specifies the requirements and test methods for tubes of pneumatic tires for motorcycles (UN ECE Categories L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5).
This standard cancels and replaces PNS 34:2006 Rubber inner tubes for pneumatic tires – Specification, which has been revised to establish the requirement for the following specific use of pneumatic tubes:
- PNS 34-1:2019 Pneumatic tubes for motorcycles – Specification
- PNS 34-2 Pneumatic tubes for bicycles – Specification
- PNS ISO 17464 Pneumatic tubes for automotive vehicles – Requirements and test methods
The PNS 34-1:2019 was prepared by the Technical Committee on Rubber and Rubber-Based Products (BPS/TC 16). BPS/TC 16 is composed of representatives from the Philippine Rubber Industries Association, Nationwide Association of Consumer, Inc., University of the Philippines Diliman, Leo Tires, MBPStar Corporation, DTI – Export Marketing Bureau, Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology Development Institute, Izumi Motorcycle Tires, and Evergreen Rubber Corporation.
This standard will promote common understanding among stakeholders in the pneumatic tire industry.
The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the country’s member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
